Thomas Jefferson Freedom Prize

The heritage of freedom that Thomas Jefferson left to us must, as he said himself, be guarded with eternal vigilance. So we have set up the Thomas Jefferson Freedom Prize as an ongoing institution to aid and support that eternal vigilance. No other man than he that penned the Declaration of  Independence, the ultimate culmination of the age of enlightenment and a godsend to all those that support our liberties and freedoms, deserves to be honoured in this way. Moreover, such a leader, author, founding father, and supporter of individual liberty is the most appropriate personification of our quest to once again end debtor's prison and cruel and unusual punishment in Michigan. 

The Reformer is awarding the Thomas Jefferson Freedom Prize to the attorney who's criminal defense case(s) has MCL § 750.165 struck down as an unconstitutional Debtor's Prison scheme or as Cruel and Unusual Punishment. In order to be awarded the prize the court ruling must result in the criminal convictions under MCL § 750.165 as void. 

The Thomas Jefferson Freedom Prize comes with a $20,000.00 award. If you cannot accept the award because you are a public defender, member of a charity, or the like, we will pay it to a registered charity or set up a trust fund of your choice.
